We are convinced that we need to self-organize more with the intention of overcoming capitalist_patriarchal_racist intrusions of our thoughts and emotions. As we see education as an opportunity for liberation, we want to learn together about trauma and traumatization on a two-weekly base.

As book we have chosen „The Politics of Trauma: Somatics, Healing, and Social Justice“ by Staci K Haines:

„How can trauma be transformed, resilience built and collective action embodied? Staci K. Haines presents a groundbreaking somatic approach to trauma work that reminds us to courageously engage in our own transformation as well as anti-racist, queer, anti-sexist, ecological and anti-capitalist justice. Only then will we be able to live fulfilled and powerful lives and achieve the social change we desire.“

In order to make the reading circle accessible to more people, we choose English as the language for our meetings. This is also to prevent only some of the participants from speaking a second language, so that more balanced contributions can be made.

We’ll be meeting every other week on monday in EG125 from 6-8pm – maybe with option for hangout until 9pm.

At the first meeting – planned for October 21st – we want to discuss the content of the group, get to know each other a bit and share what everyone needs to participate well and safely in the process.

You will not need the book or any preparation for the first meeting!

If you have questions or insecurities, of course there will be room for that as well.

Therefore it would be helpful if you write down your needs, wishes and worries that come up when you think of joining the group. – Be it around language, neurodivergency, fear that others may lack awareness for certain issues, social anxiety, etc etc. – At the meeting we might collect and write these on papers, and we will discuss all of it in small groups, without necessarily knowing who wrote what (except if people want to share it).

Barriers

The room is only accessible via steps and the toilet is not wheelchair accessible.

The heating is often not switched on before we meet so it could be quite cold during winter, but we could cook tea there.

There are various seating options and discreet lighting. It is a non-smoking room.

Covid – for the first meeting please test yourselves before. Please stay at home with cold symptoms, even if you have had a negative Covid test. We can decide then on the first meeting if there is the wish to handle it the same way for future meetings too or not.
