KINOFOKUS AUF DIE UKRAINE

(English below) In Kooperation mit dem Ukrainian Film Festival Berlin zeigen wir zwei Filme aus der Ukraine, einem Land ganz in der Nähe Deutschlands, in dem seit Wochen etwas Grauenhaftes passiert – der Krieg. Wir möchten Euch folgende Werke präsentieren: STOP-ZEMLIA von Kateryna Gornostai und THE EARTH IST BLUE AS AN ORANGE von Iryna Tsilyk. Über Selbstbewusstsein und Liebe, Selbstfindung, Geduld und auch über Krieg. 

Alle Einnahmen beider Veranstaltungen spenden wir ukrainischen Filmemacher*innen, die in diesen dunklen Zeiten weiter ihre Arbeit machen und durch ihr Kameralicht uns allen dabei helfen, die Realität besser zu sehen.

Beide Filme werden im Ukrainischen Originalton gezeigt und haben englischsprachige Untertitel.

THE EARTH IS BLUE AS AN ORANGE

Für Hanna und ihre vier Kinder ist die Transformation eines Traumas in ein Kunstwerk der ultimative Weg, menschlich zu bleiben. Während die Außenwelt aus Bombenanschlägen und Chaos besteht, schafft die Familie im ukrainischen Donbass-Kriegsgebiet ihr Zuhause als sicheren Hafen voller Leben und Licht zu erhalten. Jedes Familienmitglied hat eine Leidenschaft für das Kino, was sie dazu motiviert, einen Film zu drehen, der von ihrem eigenen Leben in Kriegszeiten inspiriert ist. Der kreative Prozess wirft die Frage auf, welche Macht die magische Welt des Kinos in Zeiten der Katastrophe haben könnte.

In cooperation with the Ukrainian Film Festival Berlin, we present two films from Ukraine, where something horrible has been happening for weeks – the war. About self-confidence and love, self-discovery, patience and also about war – the films by Kateryna Gornostai and Iryna Tsilyk are very different, but they have one thing in common – humanity.

All proceeds from both events will be donated to Ukrainian filmmakers who continue to do their work in these dark times and through their camera light help us all to see reality better.

About THE EARTH IS BLUE AS AN ORANGE

Single mother Hanna and her four children live in the front-line war zone of Donbas, Ukraine. While the outside world is made up of bombings and chaos, the family is managing to keep their home as a safe haven, full of life and full of light. Every member of the family has a passion for cinema, motivating them to shoot a film inspired by their own life during a time of war. The creative process raises the question of what kind of power the magical world of cinema could have during times of disaster. How to picture war through fiction? For Hanna and the children, transforming trauma into a work of art is the ultimate way to stay human.
